The Vic Government is trialling the draft Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework for implementation in 2010. More info at the link below:

What do you think of the VEYLDF? KPV is coordinating a response and would love to hear your views. You can also comment to me directly at or 03 9489 3500.

Curriculum planning and development is an integral part of what early childhood professionals do. I would like to know HOW staff are to mainitain a quality program with all the requirements of the new legislation, the costs of providing release time to meet guidelines and 40 weeks a year of provided kinder programs. If the Department is serious about this, why don't they make curriculum and planning days available to Early Childhood professionals as they do for Primary school staff?

The Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework is a great document that validates our practice as early childhood professionals and the outcomes emphasise the importance of children's learning and development from an early age.
Being able to use both the Victorian and National Frameworks to guide our programs can hopefully provide greater consistency between services as well.
The EYLF supplements the VEYLDF well with additonal information about teaching strategies and play

The VEYLDF reflects what teachers do. I think every early childhood educator in Victoria would think they help children; have a strong sense of identity and well being, are connected to their community, are confident and involvemed learners and effective communicators. They are outcomes we all aspire to.
