Children's Body Image Development Study The research team from the School of Psychological Science, La Trobe University, is inviting parents with 3-year-old children to participate in a longitudinal research study called Children’s Body Image Development Study to investigate the development of body image in young boys and girls.
Understanding the development of body image and related concerns in young children is very important, both for the development and implementation of age-appropriate body-related health promotion programs and for making sure that the advice given to parents, schools and child care centres is of the highest quality. This study aims to find out more about the influences of age, gender, body size and the social environment on the body image of pre-school children. To find out more about the study click

The Australian College of Optometry children’s services Did you know that 80% of what a child learns at school is presented to them visually? Young children will rarely complain of visual difficulties and may not realise their sight is impaired, however a significant proportion have been found to have visual problems.
There are a number of warning signs to look out for including:
- holding a book too close
- sitting too close to the television
- squinting
- tilting their head
- turning of an eye in our out
- headaches
- lack of concentration.
Early detection allows for intervention and correction. If unaddressed, visual problems can impact on a child’s academic performance as well as their self-confidence.
The Australian College of Optometry (ACO), based in Carlton, offers specialist paediatric services including comprehensive eye examinations and developmental assessments. All Victorian children under the age of 18 are eligible to attend. ACO provides affordable glasses for all patients and those eligible for government concessions will receive further discount.
